Are seismic losses affected by the angle of seismic incidence?

چکیده

The proposed study examines the propagation of uncertainty associated with angle seismic incidence a group ground motions, as well to that motion size, expected loss estimates reinforced concrete buildings. Six buildings infilled frame systems are studied, representative non-seismically designed structures typical southern European practice. Their monetary losses computed using performance-based earthquake engineering framework, which integrates site-specific hazard, structural response, damage building components and contents, resulting costs (repair, demolition, reconstruction). To estimate losses, an inventory non-structural elements is compiled existing cost data/functions employed. Seismic account for both probability collapse demolition result excessive residual storey drifts. Multiple stripe analysis performed this purpose numerical models capable simulating relevant limit states up collapse. Results presented in terms conditional on intensity annual determined by integrating former hazard curve site. show comparative effect size much more important when compared incidence, whose influence shown be less significant mostly concentrated variability results.

Seismic interferometry, intrinsic losses and Q-estimation∗

Seismic interferometry is the process of generating new seismic traces from the crosscorrelation, convolution or deconvolution of existing traces. One of the starting assumptions for deriving the representations for seismic interferometry by crosscorrelation is that there is no intrinsic loss in the medium where the recordings are performed. In practice, this condition is not always met. Here, ...

Seismic noise emission induced by seismic waves

The in situ rock undergoing different kinds of deformation accumulates elastic energy that can be released spontaneously o r under artificial effect. Triggering of energy can also be performed by means of a dynamic excitation caused by elastic waves. Generators of Seismic Events and Losses: Scenario-based Insurance Optimization

A principal difficulty in insuring catastrophic risks is the insufficiency of disaggregated historical data on the catastrophe losses. The lack of data and complex spatial and dynamic interdependencies between catastrophic events imply the necessity to base the insurance of property against natural hazards on catastrophe modeling. The purpose of this research is to develop a working tool for in...

Seismic image regularization in the reflection angle domain

We explore the use of preconditioned inversion in the reflection angle domain rather than migration to improve imaging in complex media. We use a wave-equation method to create reflection angle domain common image gathers and we apply steering filter preconditioning to smooth along the reflection angles. This improves the common image gathers. The improved common image gathers are more continuo...

Extracting Seismic Profiles from Background Seismic Signals

The idea of obtaining the seismic trace representing the impulse response at one receiver due to a source at another receiver has discussed by many authors. Jon Claerbout (see e.g. Rickett and Claerbout, 1996; Claerbout, web) introduced the concept to seismology. It has been investigated in the laboratory by Lobkis and Weaver (2001), observed in seismic data by Campillio and Paul (2003), and in...
